A user has started a petition to make cryptocurrency Ripple (XRP) an official currency of the Olympic Games in 2020 and got almost 10,000 signatures.
Ken Takahashi, a creator of the petition, is going to propose to National Olympic Committee to make Ripple as a currency of the Olympics. Takahashi thinks that it is a perfect solution of the language barrier, long queues and other issues that always strike worldwide events.
“As tourists stream into the country, demand for the local currency skyrockets, causing long lines at currency exchanges, as seen at past events like Beijing 2008 and Rio de Janeiro 2016. Confusing exchange rates and language barriers further complicate the problem.” – intends Takahashi.
The petition was published 10 months ago and got boomed during recent weeks. The reason is probably XRP’s September activity. If the Committee approves the petition, Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo will be the first Olympics to widely use cryptocurrency for daily routine issues.
