The head of economic policy of South Korea found dead
Jung Ki-joon, the 52-year-old head of economic policy of South Korea, who was in charge of measures against cryptocurrency speculation, found dead of heart attack. The official’s colleagues noted that he had been under extreme pressure over the last year due to holding a stressful post. Though his death is described as natural, the police have launched an investigation.
South Korea remains the largest crypto-market even after the confusion regarding cryptocurrency policy. On Jan.1, the Ministry of Justice proposed a trading ban, which in fact the South Korean Ministry of Strategy and Finance did not agree with. It was misinterpreted by some media as the announcement of an effective ban. Hong Nam-ki emphasized that “the government is still divided with many opinions ranging from an outright ban on cryptocurrency trading to bringing the institutions that handle the currency into the system.”
